Drafted in 1972, I enjoyed my first Airplane flight from Love Field in Dallas, Texas to Beautiful San Francisco. We left Dallas at about 5 in the afternoon and arrived in San Francisco at about 9 PM. I remember the pilot pointing out to us, over the loudspeaker system, of a huge forest fire below us as we flew somewhere over one of the mountain states. The area in the middle was blacker than the night and the fringes of the Fire were glowing a yellowish/orange color. As we approached the city by the bay I was in awe of the lights of San Francisco by night. Growing up in West Texas I never imagined anything so beautiful as the city by the bay lit up as it was that July night.
Daddy's Little Soldier. Living on the economy in
Seeheim, near Darmstadt. We lived in the basement apartment, which was all one big apartment unlike some other living areas which were split amongst several floors and sometimes shared with the landlord. Our Landlords Herr and Frau Nieblyn were great people. He had been in the German Army during WWII and had been a Russian POW.
